Bowling and Pudding Worms

Here is Logan drawing out the members of his family for his homework.

He's enjoys doing homework! Fingers crossed this lasts! here is working in his Chrip book he got from Zia Sarah.

The leaves are falling everywhere

 Sometimes you have the most fun while making the most mess! Kids know this, but sometimes as parents we forget. 

 Logan and I were talking about our trip to see Yo Gabba Gabba Live and he was telling me how his favorite part was when all the leaves fell on us.

So we decided to recreate it at home! Supplies we used:

Fan -I think it would be neat to plug in more than one next time, maybe across from each other. 

A contained space -we did this in his bedroom rather than the playroom

Tissue leaves -we used the ones we brought home from the show but it would be a simple craft project to do

I just held a handful in front of the fan and slowly let them go...

 "It is Fall, it is Fall. the leaves are falling everywhere!" 

Then we played a game where I would call out a colour and he would try to quick gather those leaves as they fell around him...

 

 

We ended by turning off the fan and taking turns hiding Smurfs for the other to find in the leaves. 

Kind of messy but cleaning up was fun too!

Painting and Melting Ice

We love playing with ice at our house but we've kept it in the bath tub. I saw the idea for mixing paint into ice cubes at No Time for Flashcards and knew that it would be something that Logan would enjoy. Logan explored this new way of painting by first using them as stamps and then later pushing them around and watching them leave tracks.

We used "finger painting paper" from the dollar store with has a glossy backside so it take on more liquid. Since it's a thicker paper we're going to use this idea of using it as wrapping paper --perfect for fathers day!

As they melted, Logan used his hands and fingers more. And check out Logan's Asian Squat! I guess this was genetically passed done from his father, since no one has "taught" him how to do this and I fall over when I try. :D

After we ate ice!! Logan's loving the Mott's all-fruit freezes!

The next day I had planned another ice activity for outside but it rained. So we just got our crafting table cloth again...I froze a bunch of toys in an ice block for Logan, which is something we do a lot for the bath. Taking the idea from Counting Coconuts, this time I gave him some tools to try and get them out.

He knew right away that warm water would melt it but what's this white stuff?
"Is it sugar?"
"No, it's no sugar. Give it a little taste."

"Salt!!"
He used the spoon and also the foam brush to "paint" it on

This is an activity we'll try again --next time outside on a hot day!

Mixing colours with vinegar and baking soda

Logan and I have played with baking soda and vinegar once before and he was surprisingly only mildly interested in it. When I saw the post at Not Just Cute about hiding a few drops of food coloring under the baking soda, I knew we had a winner.

I used glass baby bottles that we're no longer using. Logan really liked the smaller ones as they overflowed.

5 month old Kalia seemed to enjoy watching the activity too!

"Is it water?", Logan asked. "No, it's something else...I got Logan to smell it -definitely not water! Then we tasted it!

After he discovered all the colours that were hidden, I let him go ahead and experiment with mixing more vinegar or baking soda in.

Logan then announced he was going to make purple! He discovered how to make purple when we were painting with our feet and I reinforced it with a colour mixing activity in the bath last week. I'm happy to see that the lesson has "stuck".
